School Constitution

The Constitution of the Maharishi School covers all matters relating to the control of the school, including:

OWNERSHIP

We are a non-profit organisation, structured within the Maharishi Education for Invincibility Trust. The school is not owned by an individual.

The school will apply for PBO status, as well as Section 18A tax exemption status, as a non-profit educational institution.

The founding directors of the Maharishi Invincibility School of Management, are the same individuals that founded CIDA City Campus, the first free university-level institution in South Africa.

CHARACTER

Maharishi Invincibility School of Management uses the Consciousness-Based Education system within the context of the South African Outcomes-Based Education framework, setting out to create new standards in holistic management education at school level. This includes the daily practice of a method to improve academic and learning outcomes, including the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi techniques as part of this global system of education founded by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

AFFILIATIONS, REGISTRATION, AND ACCREDITATION

We will shortly be a member of the Independent School’s Association of Southern Africa (ISASA) and registered with the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE). We will also be applying for provisional accreditation by Umalusi, Council of Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training.

GOVERNANCE

Roles & Responsibilities

Maharishi Invincibility School of Management Board of Trustees is ultimately responsible for the strategy, overall success, financial well-being of the school as well as the formulation and maintenance of policy. The Board ensures the School meets its Vision and Mission.

There are a minimum of three Trustees. The Board includes both Executive members and non-executive members.

The Board meets four times per annum, including one Annual General Meeting. Board meetings are minuted, and a minute book is kept by the secretary of the school.

The Board follows best practice governance principles.

Board members should all have had extensive personal experience in education board positions, as well as with Maharishi School’s specific model of Consciousness-Based Education.

The full rights and responsibilities of the Trustees are fully defined in the Maharishi Education for Invincibility Trust Deed.

Maharishi Invincibility School Management Team is responsible for the day-to-day running of the school. Management meetings are held weekly.

Parent Teacher Association (PTA): Our PTA is open to all parents. They are invited to come to any of the meetings and join in our activities, all designed to be useful and fun at the same time.

The PTA is primarily a support mechanism, acting as a communications link between the school body and the parents, assisting with issues that may arise.

Another function of the PTA is to fundraise on an ongoing basis, raising money to help develop the school’s facilities. The PTA does not have a formal governance function, although the inputs are vitally important.

FUNDING

Maharishi Invincibility School of Management is self funded, through the fees of students. Donations are always welcomed but are not necessary in order to run the school. Fees are hence set at a level that cover all running and capital costs of the school and proper budget planning and risk management processes are in place to ensure this.

ADMISSION POLICY

Maharishi Invincibility School of Management follows common admissions policies, and is in accord with the Constitution of South Africa, the South African Schools Act, and other relevant legislation.

Students entering Grade 8, should have successfully completed Grade 7 at another school.

The school uses standard Recognition for Prior Learning policy, to enrol students in higher year levels of the school, where they have completed the required grade learning in another school.

Parents complete the forms on behalf of their child. On joining the school, parents are required to sign a contract with the school, that includes all expectations, the school’s rules and disciplinary code.

Maharishi School’s intention is to offer a standard of education that is at least equal to that offered by other leading recognised private schools, but unsurpassed in its innovation, quality of teachers, and the learning environment.

All students will be interviewed as part of the admissions process.

The institution is non disciminating in its admission’s policy, and will accept students from all religions, cultures, backgrounds, race groups, gender, orientation, belief systems, and countries. The school honours each religious and cultural tradition, in teaching students about a variety of religions and cultures, as well as honouring key religious holiday for each major religion in South Africa per year.

On joining the institution however, all parents and students should understand and are contracted in their understanding that Maharishi School is a Consciousness-Based Education institution, and that students are required to practice the educational techniques used for the development of Consciousness, on joining the school.

Maharishi School will endeavour to arrange on an annual basis, for the securing of a number of scholarships for learners from historically disadvantaged backgrounds to join and attend the school, where parents otherwise would not be able to afford the fees of the School.
